LHSR has four Hypersonic Shock Tunnels named as HST2, HST3 (Free piston driven) , HST4 and HST5 (Combustion driven) , large number of shock tubes of diameters ranging from 1 mm to 165 mm, underwater shock wave facility and a Supersonic jet facility used for the research in High speed aerodynamics, Chemical kinetics, Shock wave phenomena and its related applications. Various Shock wave devices are used for Bio-Sciences, medical and industrial research. The laboratory is equipped with sufficient instrumentation which includes force balances, various pressure transducers, and heat transfer rate sensors. Different flow visualization techniques are available in the laboratory, which include Schlieren technique, LIF, optical tomography, dynamic holography, electrical discharge technique and BOS.
